SUNY ADIRONDACK (2023-2024)

ART222 - Phrase 10 Ways

The requirement of the project consisted of choosing a phrase used in society & create 10 different graphics incorporating the phrase. I decided to take the phrase "break the ice" and turn it into a literal interpretation of ice breaking. my stylistic approached was inspired by branded logos such as Northface and the overall aesthetic of hickey merchandising. I also decided to play around with depth, perspective & the physicality of breaking up the font.

ART125 - SkillsUSA Logo

This project was entered into the SkillsUSA pin & logo contest for both the regionals and state competitions. The requirements included a 7x7 T-shirt design & a 1x1 in pin design that fit the theme "No Limits". For the pin I decided to go for a inclusive/diversity theme to represent how success & determination is not limited by beliefs, ethnicity or any other factors that make people in society who they are. In the T-shirt design I took a different approach and did a Adirondack/New York theme design to represent pride & the endless possibilities New York has. I illustrated an eagle that had caught a fish to represent the hardships New York has conquered over the years as well as it's impact on the country.

ART125 - Album Cover

The project requirement was to create an album cover that creates visual interest with the skills we had learned from our graphics class in a given amount of time. The album I chose was That's All from Bobby Darin and my cover was inspired by his infamous song "Mack The Knife". The song follows the story of a knife-wielding criminal of the London underworld, Macheath. In the cover I incorporated hidden symbols from the song throughout design including a list of his victims, the knife & the shadow of the ship. I placed the setting of the cover in a 50's cafe to contrast the malicious intents of Macheath. I then added old photos that are inspired by the other songs within the album.

ART222 - Mythical Creature

The requirement of the project consisted of creating a mythical creature using layer masking & the pen/pencil tools in Adobe Illustrator. We started by creating sketches of our concepts that we later brought into Illustrator. My concept was inspired by the effects of global warming on animal environments such as the colder climate areas. With glaciers melting and ships having various  incidents with whales, I figured I'd combine the two. Additionally, I added a baby whale to invoke a stronger connection between the viewer and the creatures.

ART222 - Movie Poster

The requirement of the project consisted of choosing a film, 5 years or older to recreate a movie poster interpreting a modern remake. I chose to recreate ratatouille as a Disney live action since Disney has been making many new live action films. I was inspired by the posters from the actual remakes where it had the main focus of a key symbol from each movie with a backlit foreground.

ART125 - Movie Poster

This project was apart of a series where the class was to create a new poster for a selection of movies given to us by our professor. The project was a multi-step assignment that required one poster and a collection of concepts relating to merchandising & advertising. For this certain poster I had chosen the 2010 film Black Swan. My design was targeted to lean into the metaphorical aspect of the film specifically the idea how a darker story lies beneath the surface of beauty. My first concept was based on the scene where the main protagonist, Nina. had embraced the feeling of becoming her role; in this scene they show this by casting her transformation into a swan through the cast of her shadow. Later in the year I had redone the poster to fit the darker tone of the movie better by changing the lighting to a spotlight, to create a feeling of pressure & mirroring Nina as the white swan to the black, creating a slight asymmetrical balance.

ART125 - Vintage Dishware

The requirement of the project consisted of a finalized abstract designs for a
dinner plate, side plate, bowl, cup & coordinating saucer.  Additionally there should be mockups showing how the designs will look on each piece of tableware. I was inspired by the botanical minimalism of 50's dishware. I decided to take inspiration from the solid rings on the rim of the plates with the focus being citrus themed fruits in the center. I used procreate to illustrate hand-painted fruits then imported them into the final design in Adobe.

ART125 - Album Cover

This project was apart of a series where the class was to create a collection of vinyl cover designs (interior & exterior), a inner sleeve for the record & a concept for the disc on both sides. After that we expanding the concept to fit promotional media, merchandising & stage design. for this vinyl specifically we were assigned to fit the category of supernatural. I decided to lean into the concept of witchcraft & spell books for the album New Amsterdam by Zola Jesus. For additional work I created mockups for tour & merchandise products.
